Call For Papers |
The Wooden O Symposium is a cross-disciplinary conference exploring Medieval, Renaissance, and Early Modern Studies, through the text and performance of Shakespeare’s plays. Scholars from all disciplines are encouraged to submit papers that offer insights and new ideas springing from the era of William Shakespeare. His plays are replete with the language, thoughts and art of the Renaissance and Western culture and represent an inexhaustible source for creative ideas and research. Conference Priorities - The Wooden O Symposium is hosted by Southern Utah University, home of the Tony Award- winning Utah Shakespearean Festival, which will be presenting The Comedy of Errors, Henry V, and As You Like It during its 2009 summer season. Priority for papers/ presentations at the conference will be given to research relating to one or more of these specific works. The Adams Memorial Theatre is a unique outdoor perfomance space designed to reflect Shakespeare's own "wooden O." Conference participants will have the unique opportunity of immersing themselves in research, text and performance in one of the most beautiful natural settings in the western U.S. Papers

accepted from academic scholars, graduate students,
and aficionados. All
submissions are subject to the same academic peer review process.
Southern Utah University is a proud supporter of undergraduate research and is pleased to announce that this conference will include an exciting undergraduate component hosted by the SUU Honors Program. Undergraduates are encouraged to submit original papers for consideration. In addition, conference referees will choose a select one undergraduate paper for publication in the Journal of the Wooden O Symposium. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2009.
